1st off Im not going to comment on the administration because it is not my place as a service member. I do have one question though about current American issues. Are we any better off today then we were when Bush left office? No… 2nd troops should be one of the presidents highest concerns as he is the commander in chief of them. Screw your personal agendas, do your job and show you care, just like you require me and my peers to do ours and entrust us with soldiers lives [...]
If you haven’t yet heard of Skins , MTV’s latest attempt to lead American youths down a path of promiscuity and debauchery, you may be flat lining. Over the past week, media coverage has been rampant, as pundits and journalists have warned of the show’s potential federal pornography violations, as well as the danger it poses to America’s youth. If you’ve missed the hoopla, allow me to catch you up: MTV recently began airing the scripted series, which – to sum it up – places young teens in more-than-adult scenarios. Skins is an adaptation of an even raunchier British series (go figure). Within days of the show’s premiere, The Parents Television Council (PTC) came out strongly against the program , calling it the “most dangerous show” on television and asking that Congress investigate allegations that MTV violated federal pornography laws. Upon examining the evidence, it doesn’t take a conservative world-view to find oneself fully supportive of the PTC’s wrath. The WSJ’s Speakeasy blog provides just a few of the show’s highlights : In the first episode…a girl sneaks home after a debauched night of partying. A boy has decorated his bedroom with porno magazines (and not Playboy, the hardcore kind). Another girl is willing to trade sexual favors for drugs. Later, that same girl pops too many pills and has to be rushed to the hospital. In a later episode, another boy takes sexual performance pills and spends the entire hour with a visible erection [...]

When I was 17 I found out I was pregnant. It was October. I can’t remember the weather, but I remember my mother’s reaction when I told her in the car on the way home from the doctor’s visit that the rabbit died. Yeah, I used those words. I was not a sensitive child. [...]
The Grand Jury report of its investigation into Kermit Gosnell’s baby slaughter house in Philadelphia reveals the greedy neglect of the city of Philadelphia. Once again, like the state of Pennsylvania, the city of Philadelphia had more than enough information gathered by reliable employees to shut down Gosnell’s serial killing factory. But they declined to act. Beginning on page 202, the report details inspections of Gosnell’s clinic by nurses there to verify his participation in a free vaccine program run by the city. The City of Philadelphia employee who did notice and report the abysmal conditions she observed at Gosnell’s clinic was a registered nurse named Lori Matijkiw. [...]
Brandon Stanton, the founder of the “ Humans of New York ” project, has assembled this awesome montage. If you’ve never been to NYC, you can’t possibly relate. But, if you’re one of the lucky ones who lives, lived or has at least visited the city, this montage perfectly captures the insanity. Enjoy: [...]

Every thing in my life is the result of choices, choices made by me, my parents, people around me. I live with the consequences of those choices. So do you. That is life. God’s grace intervenes to relieve me of the weight of those consequences. Sometimes. Sometimes he allows me to live with the harvest of the seeds I’ve sown and the seeds others have sown. This is life, welcome. As I’ve read the Grand Jury report on Kermit Gosnell’s abortion clinic, read the stories of women who got abortions from him, read how this story isn’t about abortion, how it is about abortion, blah blah blah. Yes, this is all about abortion. More specifically, this is all about choices, many many bad choices. One of the women highlighted in the grand jury report was irredeemably injured by Gosnell after her third abortion from him. Third second trimester abortion. According to the Grand Jury report, Gosnell stopped doing first trimester abortions long ago. That 22 year old woman who was finally sterilized by Gosnell after her third second trimester abortion through injuries received during that abortion. She made a bunch of awful choices along the way. She’s chosen to have sex outside of marriage without using proper contraception repeatedly. She has chosen to use abortion as a form of birthcontrol repeatedly. She chose to wait to have her abortions, increasing the risks to her future health and fertility. She has paid a price by choosing death for three of her children and now can not have any. [...]
Well, you’ve got me thinking and pondering for the second straight late Friday night. What to even say about this music video that you didn’t already say. Something you touched on that I’ll hammer away further at; the fact that someone would look at this video and say “Yes, that’s what we wanted. It’s a wrap.” is pretty disturbing. We’ve fallen as a society when this is acceptable, so acceptable that it makes it to the media outlets for all to see [...]

I am still reading the Grand Jury report in the Gosnell case. I am deeply angry at these bureaucrats for the appalling and obvious intentional negligence of the state workers at Pennsylvania’s Department of Health and Department of State. From the report (emphasis mine): With a call to the Department of Health, the Board’s attorneys could have known immediately of at least one other prosecutable offense: Gosnell violated the Abortion Control Act by not reporting Ms. Shaw’s death to the Department of Health. For this offense, the Board of Medicine had the authority to suspend or revoke Gosnell’s license. The state prosecutors, however, clearly had no interest in investigating Gosnell, much less holding him accountable for the crime spree that he called a medical practice. [...]
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania had a charnal house* until recently. One that catered to the poor. One that dealt drugs during the day and death at night. This charnal house was filthy, filled with the dead rotting away in plain sight. This dealer of death and drugs kept trophies of his kills, Kermit P. Gosnell cut off his victim’s feet and kept them in jars on a shelf. In the open. Since 1993 the State of Pennsylvania and the City of Philadelphia allowed this man to operate his illegal house of drugs and death openly without any kind of oversight, though they knew about his operation for much longer and had even visited it from time to time in a sham inspection process. They knew what was happening in that house and did absolutely nothing to stop it. The authorities in Pennsylvania and Philadelphia left this criminal operation running because they were playing politics. It was an illegal medical operation left alone in squalor and death because to enforce the laws would have not been politically pleasing to the people in charge. When someone finally did come knocking on the door of accountability the bureaucrats who had closed their eyes lawyered up and declared their own innocence first. This illegal operation was a late term abortion mill which ran a prescription drug business during the day. BOTH sides to this “medical” clinic were run illegally. But the departments tasked with running oversight chose to ignore this little clinic for a few reasons. A [...]

It’s been a wild (not to mention tragic) few weeks in American politics. In the midst of the chaos, some intriguing poll results have emerged. Here’s a quick recap of some of the findings I deem most astounding/interesting: According to CNN , 70% of Americans “…say that the [Arizona] incident does not make them more likely to support stricter gun control laws.” Overall, Americans do not blame Sarah Palin or her web site (which included the infamous target map) for the shootings. Only about three in 10 Americans place a viable level of blame on Palin/her site ( as per CNN ). Real Clear Politics’ average has President Obama up a tick or two, with his new approval rating standing at 48.4%; 45.6% of the nation disapproves of his job performance [...]
A very thoughtful piece here, and a good rundown of the history of the situation. This was the money quote for me: “Or is it more likely that so many who have been toiling in the bureaucracy that usually comes with statecraft, foreign policy, legislation and politics in general are just unsettled by the All-American entrepreneurial spirit manifesting itself in a new way.” That quote could be applied to thousands of endeavors in this country and as many across the globe. Governments, and by extension bureaucracies, get muddled in nonsense and paperwork. But the people who go out and get their hands dirty know what will work, and in the case of Clooney, he is wealthy enough and has enough other connections that he can bypass the idiocy and take action. 99% of the time I have no use for Clooney, but I can appreciate this effort and even further appreciate what this effort might inspire in others. Reading about the Together We Thrive © Memorial Democratic Grief Rally , I was reminded of the times Obama came to the university I work for during the campaign and then after for the health care rally. Thousands in t-shirts made for the occasion, signs pre-printed. I had to man a concession stand, which the organizers insisted be open. Gah. It was very ookie when it was all for politics. But this? The branding for a memorial service? T-shirts for a memorial? Concessions? Because God knows, when I grieve, I grieve better with a Coke and a smile. [...]
I’m really trying to not comment here on the insanity that is the pundit feeding frenzy surrounding the Tuscon Crime. I’m just saying, I’ll go public when I am more comfortable with knowing enough to say what I want to say. Generally. This thought, however, can’t wait. Watch this video of my congressman. This from the man who stated that I have a bad family because I disagree with him on the size and scope of government. A lecture on civility, telling me not to denigrate my political opponents, that I must confront them respectfully. *&^#*&$*&^!&^!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, of course, I wrote him an email [...]

America is certainly abuzz over Ted Williams, the former homeless man turned media sensation. While his story is inspirational, it also provides a portrait of the lives of individuals who find themselves in the grips of poverty. Williams’ story spread like wild fire this past week after Doral Chenoweth, a multimedia producer for The Columbia Dispatch, recorded Ted while panhandling and posted the video online. According to CNN , After Chenoweth posted the video, it went viral. Williams did interviews on national television and radio [...]
