Life has a way of throwing surprises our way. Sometimes they’re pleasant, other times — not to much. But, if there’s anything I’ve learned in my 27 years (don’t laugh — I know I still have a lot to learn) on this Earth it’s that very few things are permanent — or, more plainly stated: Change is a natural part of life. Unfortunately for me, I’ve never been a big fan of it (change, that is). [...] It’s been a little while since I last posted here. That said, I want to share some exciting news (for those of you who don’t yet know). In May, I officially joined The Blaze editorial staff full-time. What is The Blaze , you ask? It’s an excellent, daily news outlet. [...] The debate over America’s fiscal woes continues to intensify. Interestingly, Independents and Democrats are highly favorable of raising taxes on the “wealthy” (any income above $250,000). Republicans, on the other hand, disagree with such a proposal. According to The Hill , On taxes, the poll reported that roughly two out of three registered voters — 64 percent — would be in favor of increasing taxes on annual income over $250,000. President Obama reiterated in his deficit-reduction speech last week that he favored allowing taxes to rise on families in that income level. Like many governing bodies across the nation, the Ohio State Legislature has taken up a number of anti-abortion bills over the past few weeks. However, one measure in particular is raising hope for anti-abortion advocates who seek to place further restrictions on the procedure. State Rep. Lynn Wachtmann (R.-Napolean) has introduced the Human Heartbeat Protection Act—now being dubbed the Heartbeat Bill—a highly contentious proposal that has the potential to make Ohio the new battleground in the ongoing and decades-old abortion debate. [...] Friday morning, it was an honor to hang out down at FOX News discussing Egypt, Mubarak’s then refusal to cede power and the like. Hours after my FOXNews.com Live appearance, Mubarek finally stepped down. What interesting times we live in. There’s some great debate here regarding what’s next for Egypt. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been perplexed by and discouraged over calls from the right to exclude factions of the conservative movement from this year’s CPAC conference. Conservatives are walking a dangerous tightrope if they (we) begin cutting people with whom we disagree out of the conversation. And let’s face it — the discussions we, as Americans and as conservatives, need to be having about our country supersede any qualms some may have about specific issues (i.e. gay marriage, Iraq, etc). [...] If you haven’t yet heard of Skins , MTV’s latest attempt to lead American youths down a path of promiscuity and debauchery, you may be flat lining. Over the past week, media coverage has been rampant, as pundits and journalists have warned of the show’s potential federal pornography violations, as well as the danger it poses to America’s youth. If you’ve missed the hoopla, allow me to catch you up: MTV recently began airing the scripted series, which – to sum it up – places young teens in more-than-adult scenarios. Skins is an adaptation of an even raunchier British series (go figure). Within days of the show’s premiere, The Parents Television Council (PTC) came out strongly against the program , calling it the “most dangerous show” on television and asking that Congress investigate allegations that MTV violated federal pornography laws. Upon examining the evidence, it doesn’t take a conservative world-view to find oneself fully supportive of the PTC’s wrath. The WSJ’s Speakeasy blog provides just a few of the show’s highlights : In the first episode…a girl sneaks home after a debauched night of partying. A boy has decorated his bedroom with porno magazines (and not Playboy, the hardcore kind). Another girl is willing to trade sexual favors for drugs. Later, that same girl pops too many pills and has to be rushed to the hospital. In a later episode, another boy takes sexual performance pills and spends the entire hour with a visible erection [...] Brandon Stanton, the founder of the “ Humans of New York ” project, has assembled this awesome montage. If you’ve never been to NYC, you can’t possibly relate. But, if you’re one of the lucky ones who lives, lived or has at least visited the city, this montage perfectly captures the insanity.
